About JD.com’s Chief Executive Officer Richard Liu

The JD.com founder; Richard Liu is the leader of one of the leading e-commerce firms in China.

Richard Liu Qiangdong attended the Renmin University of China for his sociology education and received his degree in 1996. In 2004, he established JD.com, and today it’s among the biggest e-commerce firm. Thanks to Liu’s leadership, the firm was later successfully listed on the NASDAQ in the United States in May 2014.

JD.com operations have grown into various other fields, including retail, technology, logistics, health care, insurance, real estate, and international trade. To this day, the firm possesses a statewide network of intelligent supply chain infrastructure in addition to its hundreds of thousands of full-time employees. JD has developed into a novel kind of business that possesses the genetic code and characteristics of the real economy. That’s in addition to the digital technologies and capabilities.

He retired as JD.com’s CEO in 2018. His company goals include consistently contributing to high-quality jobs, improving industrial efficiency, and providing assistance to the community. In 2020, Mr. Liu was in charge of the firm when it took an active role in the fight against COVID-19. Recently, Liu has been spending a greater amount of time on the cause of restoring rural communities.

Even though Richard Liu Qiangdong’s retail firm started as a chain of electronics stores, it wasn’t until 2003 that JD started to take the form that it has today. Due to the SARS pandemic that the country was experiencing, many companies, including Liu’s, were forced to close their doors that year. Instead of viewing this as a barrier to the growth of his firm, Liu Qiangdong reframed it as a chance to broaden the scope of his operations and began advertising the availability of his wares on various internet message boards.

After reopening his shops, Qiangdong saw success in e-commerce. He did this because he observed the success that e-commerce was achieving at the time. In January of 2004, he formally introduced the firm’s presence on the internet. After operating his company offline and online for one year, he concluded that he wanted to focus entirely on e-commerce.
